  4. These are words or concepts I've come across that I've had to look up.
  5. I record the definitions as a memory aid and for reference.
  6. Antimacassar:: A small cloth placed over the backs or arms of chairs, or the head or cushions of a sofa, to prevent soiling of the permanent fabric underneath
  7. Concomitant:: Naturally accompanying or associated ("comes with its own concomitant set of problems")
  8. Droit du seigneur:: A feudal right said to have existed in medieval Europe giving the lord to whom it belonged the right to sleep the first night with the bride of any one of his vassals
  9. Exegesis:: Critical analysis or interpretation, especially of scripture
  10. Junta:: A council or committee for political or government purposes, especially after a revolutionary seizure of power
  11. Lepidopterology:: Branch of entomology concerning the study of months and butterflies
  12. Malaphor:: Blend of two aphorisms, idioms, or clichés ("We'll burn that bridge when we come to it") [informal]
  13. Matutolypea:: The state of being extraordinarily grumpy, irritable, and plain anti-social first thing in the morning
  14. Oubliette:: A dungeon with an opening only at the top
  15. Polemic:: A controversial argument, or person inclined to controversy, argument, or refutation

  17. Quotidian:: Everyday; commonplace; occuring daily
  18. Seraglio:: Living quarters reserved for wives and concubines and female relatives in a Muslim household
  19. Wabi-sabi:: A Japanese philosophy often described as appreciating the beauty in imperfection
